The History of Magic exhibition opens today at the British Library. It may seem strange, a mere few months after Britain's first ever national museum of magic opens, that the highly prestigious British Library would wish to join the mission to bring this important part of our cultural heritage to the attention of the public. Yet it is not the magic world of conjurers and illusionists that is being celebrated, but the world's most famous mythical magician, Harry Potter. A name far better known to millennials than the greats of real magic history, such as Robert-Houdin, P.T. Selbit, Houdini and Maskelyne. But whether real or imaginery, the world of magic is a place of fascination for adults and children alike.
The History of Magic exhibition at the British Library runs until the 28th February.
